One of Hollywood's greatest movie icons for
more than half a century, Bette Davis had become, in popular fantasy,
a creature of pure style -- an egg-eyed phantom bitch-goddess
from a shadowy world of lies, betrayal, ambition, tragedy. And
cigarette smoke.
Bette Davis, she was a true Hollywood legend and one of the best
actresses of the 20th Century. Her career spanned six decades
and more than eighty films. No one was ever like her and no one
will ever be again. Even in some of her worst films Miss Davis
added "fire and music" to the dullest of scripts.
Intense, volatile, ruled too often by her emotions, Bette Davis
was described by one critic as "a force of nature that could
find no ordinary outlet." Explore for a while the amazing
career of the "Queen of Hollywood," Miss Bette Davis.
Now, more than a half a century later, we have created a room
where she could call home. Adorned with gold sheers, a beautiful
Queen sized brass bed and deco furnishings, complete with a waterfall
armoire with a pull down desk. And an incredibal collection of
some vintage Warner Bros. production photos and memorabilia. One
of the great items in the room is a fassion drawing of Bette in
the famous backwards worn dress, that she wore in “its all
about Eve” The photos are of her many faces that she was
so well know for in so many movies.
In the grand style of a movie queen holding court, Miss Davis
room exemplifies her personality to a tee. You can just picture
her sitting in the chair and delivering her Welcome as she pronounces,
as she speaks in periods and exclamation points, punching out
brief, emphatic statements. Like Welcome-- to my room -- its such
a dump!
